Our Approach

We strongly believe in harnessing the ability of what children do instinctively: PLAY!  At Tāla, we focus on pedagogies influenced by Orff -Schulwerk and alternate approaches that introduce educators to a creative, inclusive & engaging approach to teaching – one that works harmoniously to develop confident individuals while maintaining learner agency.

Our workshops are aimed at giving you a practical understanding of integrating movement and music in your classes along with your academic curriculum. You will be taught the same way you will be expected teach in your classroom. The concepts and approach taught to you will follow on in your classroom and you will revert in to the group works and movement principles with the idea that music should be fun and the delivery should be fun. There is a lot to be learnt from playing

Primary school teachers would do well to use activity -based teaching in order to effectively harness and direct student energies. The Arts in general can help immensely. Music and Movement Training in these pedagogies also allows for integration with subjects like mathematics, literature, social science and much more. Through approaches like these, the ordinary Circle Time can be transformed into a beautifully creative and inclusive activity.

Our courses enable Performing Arts teachers, including General Music Teachers and Instrumental Teachers to establish a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music and movement. You learn to teach rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, form, and other basic elements of music; children will be expected to learn these by experiencing them through speaking, chanting, singing, dancing, movement, acting, and playing instruments. These concepts can be easily transferred into formal western music should a child pursue a serious instrument.

The concepts learned in the program can be easily adapted as music therapy for children with special needs. Dexterity and fine motor skills needn’t be a deterrent for a child to experience music, as the concepts teach you to use movement, body percussion and instruments that require gross motor skills and little or no prior knowledge.

Other than exploring music and movement from cultures across the world, we also understand the diverse and wonderful cultural melting pot that we live in, and have tailored our content to adapt to local culture. The importance of preserving our mother tongue, folklore and culture is vital to us. Our courses strongly help you integrate the same into the taught curricula.

While catering to a small group of children, it can be challenging to meet various learning needs. However, when the class numbers are 30 or more, this leaves the teacher with a mammoth task. Singing is the most common activity that children engage in and unfortunately, it is the only aspect that most schools cater to. Children have various needs and are extremely creative. Keeping this in mind, and with a keen understanding of several factors we face in India, like teacher-student ratio, infrastructure, budgeting constraints, timetable and scheduling, we have designed our workshops and resources to be adaptable to your situation and still make learning inclusive, engaging and fun. The goal is to give each child an opportunity to play an instrument, even in the most limiting circumstances, and bring out the creative prowess of a child.

Process and Product: These are two elements that go hand in hand. Putting up a band and choir performance for annual day/founders day, musicals, Christmas shows and other events are a beautiful learning experience for the student and the teacher. While the end product is most prefered, the process aspect is always neglected and so are the majority of students who are deemed incapable. Following an adaptable curriculum is vital to the success of every child in every learning environment. The product results in us working more with the students that are artistically inclined, while the process, admirably, involves every child irrespective of their skills. Our curriculum maps out the entire program for the year. It provides a broad overview of the concepts to be covered and what grades would cover them. We also have lesson plans that provide a detailed framework of the concepts to be taught and possible differentiation strategies. We are also currently working on audio and visual aids to support lesson planning. These will contain various resources like songs, activities, games etc that can be used in the classes.

In-school workshops provide schools with the opportunity to train their staff on their own school premises, and to focus upon selective issues and strategies. These workshops are tailored to the needs of school staff and are proven to be a cost-effective way to strengthen the whole school community. We provide all equipment (the instruments & teaching aids) required for the workshop. To enquire or book us please complete our ONLINE BOOKING FORM  and contact the team on 0091-9731055913 or email info@talaeducation.com
